Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas is the new sister to Icon of the Seas — the most searched cruise ship of the last two years — and she’s now sailing the Caribbean year-round from Port Canaveral. If your family has been thinking about an Icon-class cruise but Icon’s sailings are sold out or out of budget, Star of the Seas is the cruise to look at right now.

I’m Steve Griswold, founder of Pixie Vacations and a Royal Caribbean cruise specialist. I book Royal Caribbean sailings every week for families, and Star of the Seas is one of the easier “yes” cruises to recommend in 2026 — both because of what’s onboard and because of the family-friendly promotions Royal Caribbean is layering in right now. Here’s the full rundown.

Star of the Seas — What Families Need to Know

Star of the Seas
Class Icon-class (same as Icon of the Seas)
Homeport (2026) Port Canaveral, Florida
Itineraries 7-night Caribbean — Eastern and Western rotations
Highlight feature Perfect Day at CocoCay (Royal’s private Bahamas island) on most sailings
Best for Multi-generational families, families with kids ages 4–17, big-ship lovers
Capacity Among the largest cruise ships in the world (paired with Icon and the upcoming Legend)

What’s Onboard Star of the Seas

Star is built on the exact same hull and platform as Icon of the Seas, which means almost everything that made Icon a phenomenon is back on Star — refined and refreshed for 2026:

  • Eight neighborhoods across the ship — including Surfside (the family-only neighborhood with a kid-sized boardwalk, family pool, and Surfside Eatery), Thrill Island (with the Crown’s Edge skywalk), Chill Island (the multi-deck pool stack), and the AquaDome where the AquaTheater shows happen.
  • Category 6 waterpark — six waterslides including the Frightening Bolt (the tallest drop slide at sea).
  • The Pearl — Icon-class signature multi-deck art installation in the central atrium.
  • 40+ dining options — including the Empire Supper Club (a 1920s-themed reservation-only dinner show) and a refreshed lineup of family-friendly eateries.
  • Adventure Ocean kids’ clubs for ages 6 months through 17 years, with dedicated tween (Adventure Ocean — The Patio) and teen (Social020) hangouts.
  • Royal Bay Pool — the largest pool at sea on a Royal Caribbean ship.

The 2026 Promotions Royal Caribbean Is Running Right Now

Three promos are stacked on Star of the Seas (and most other Royal Caribbean 2026 sailings) right now. If you’re booking for your family, these are the dates to know:

  • Kids 12 and under sail FREE on select sailings — third and fourth guests must travel with two paying adults. This is the headline family deal and applies to a number of Star of the Seas Caribbean sailings, especially those outside of peak holiday weeks.
  • 60% off the second guest on select 2026 departures — ends April 30, 2026. If you’re booking soon, lock this one in before it disappears.
  • 3rd & 4th guests sail FREE with two paying adults — ends May 4, 2026. This is the deal for families of four where the kids are over 12 and don’t qualify for the “kids sail free” headline offer.

Star of the Seas vs. Icon of the Seas — Which One to Book?

This is the question I get most often, and the answer for almost every family is “whichever has availability and price that works for you.” Here’s the honest breakdown:

  • Star and Icon are nearly identical ships. Same class, same neighborhoods, same waterpark, same scale. There are minor refresh differences in the dining lineup and theming, but a family that loves Icon will love Star and vice versa.
  • Icon sails year-round from Miami. Star sails year-round from Port Canaveral. Pick the homeport that makes your family’s drive (or flight) easier.
  • Star usually has more availability. Because Star launched in summer 2025 (after Icon’s massive 2024 wave of bookings), 2026 sailings on Star tend to have more open inventory, especially for the larger family staterooms and connecting rooms.
  • Pricing is similar on equivalent dates and cabins. Don’t book one over the other for price alone — book the homeport and itinerary that fits your family’s calendar.

When to Book a 2026 Star of the Seas Cruise

For a family of four traveling on a peak date — spring break, summer, Thanksgiving, or Christmas/New Year’s — I tell people to book 9 to 12 months ahead. For Icon-class ships specifically, this is the sweet spot for getting the best rate on the cabin you actually want (especially balcony, suite, and family connecting categories).

If you’re flexible on dates and don’t need a specific cabin category, you can sometimes get a great last-minute deal in the 60–90 day window, but inventory will be limited and the kids-sail-free promotion may not apply.

Why Booking Through Pixie Vacations Helps Your Family

Royal Caribbean pays Pixie Vacations a commission whether you book directly with them or through us — so booking through Pixie costs you exactly the same as booking on royalcaribbean.com, but you get a few real advantages:

  • We watch for promotional pricing and rebook you if Royal drops the rate after you’ve booked. This happens more often than people realize.
  • We can spot the best stateroom on the deck plan — quietest cabin, best mid-ship balcony, family connecting rooms — instead of you guessing from a deck map.
  • We handle dining reservations, shore excursions, and onboard packages as part of our planning service.
  • Free planning — we don’t charge any fees, ever.

Book Your 2026 Star of the Seas Cruise

Two ways to book a Star of the Seas cruise through us:

  • Browse and book Royal Caribbean cruises online through our cruise booking engine. Search by date, ship, and itinerary, and book directly.
  • Get a free quote from one of our cruise-trained agents. Tell us your dates, family size, and budget — we’ll come back with the right cabin and the best available promotion.

If you have a specific Star of the Seas sailing in mind or want to compare it against Icon, give us a call at 678-815-1584 or email info@pixievacations.com. We’ve helped over 700 families book Royal Caribbean cruises, and we’d love to help yours.
