- Icon sails year-round from Miami. Star sails year-round from Port Canaveral. Pick the homeport that makes your family’s drive (or flight) easier.
- Star usually has more availability. Because Star launched in summer 2025 (after Icon’s massive 2024 wave of bookings), 2026 sailings on Star tend to have more open inventory, especially for the larger family staterooms and connecting rooms.
- Pricing is similar on equivalent dates and cabins. Don’t book one over the other for price alone — book the homeport and itinerary that fits your family’s calendar.

For a family of four traveling on a peak date — spring break, summer, Thanksgiving, or Christmas/New Year’s — I tell people to book 9 to 12 months ahead. For Icon-class ships specifically, this is the sweet spot for getting the best rate on the cabin you actually want (especially balcony, suite, and family connecting categories).
If you’re flexible on dates and don’t need a specific cabin category, you can sometimes get a great last-minute deal in the 60–90 day window, but inventory will be limited and the kids-sail-free promotion may not apply.
