If you are familiar with anything connected to the Virgin Voyages, you will know what I’m talking about. Recently, they launched this new cruise line that has wholly dismantled the world of cruising. As much as the Virgin Voyages love to present some new lines, all of them adult-only, with world-class restaurants included, inclusive dining, and an innovative approach to many other aspects, the Virgin Voyages has taken things to the next level. Other than throwing out the traditional dress code overboard, they have created something special – Virgin Voyages Red Night.
On Virgin Voyages, this is considered to be one of the best parties. It is a night when the ship is fully activated, paving the way for a fantastic atmosphere for everyone who is on board. It is meant to be a unique experience for everyone. Their idea for creating this was to bring places to life in unexpected ways, as the manager of the Virgin Voyages shows says.
This is unlike any experience you have ever seen before. Sure, I like partying as much as the next person, but Scarlet Night completely blew me away. Aside from the atmosphere that resembles the one you see at festivals, what makes it so unique is its luxurious vibe. Everyone is dressed up in their finest red attire – hence the name – and the whole setting is simply infectious. In addition, unlike clubs where people can get quite pushy, everyone attending is in their best (and friendliest!) mood. I mean, you’re attending the Virgin Voyages Scarlet party – how can you not be ecstatic?
Scarlet Night ended up being a fruitful collaboration between the in-house entertainment of the Virgin Voyages and Randy Weiner, who is the award-winning producer of The Donkey Show, Queen of the Night, and Sleep No More. He was solely responsible for the design and production of this multi-location-based event. The exceptional nightlife producers of “House of Yes” create even better energy later in the night by presenting a creative concept that is part of your Virgin Voyages Scarlet Night experience.
This experience is anything but subtle, and you’ll feel this as soon as the cruise sets sail. Virgin Voyages has designed such an incredible experience that the “Sailors” can navigate through their own path and have one of the greatest adventures ever.
Here is how it all begins…
If you are a part of Virgin Cruise Red Night, here is how your night will go. You will start with some refreshing drinks at The Dock – and those may quickly turn into a soiree or a pool float parade that is so intense, as a Sailor, you have no choice but to dance your way through. The DJ will start mixing up some of the most amazing songs, true crowd pleasers, but they are mixed in such a unique way, that it positively surprises you. As you go well into the night, you move on to the pool deck where the party becomes even more heated. After that, the party disperses in several venues, creating many options for you to choose from.
No matter how the night begins, it moves on for many people at The Manor, where the floor vibes take over with the exquisite selection of house music. But what makes Virgin Voyages Scarlet Night so special is that there is not just one location like this one – there are many just like this all over the place, allowing you to tear up the dance floor alone, with friends, or as a part of a larger crowd.
The abstract part and epicness of it only continue, as if the Moma PS1 and the Panorama Bar have merged into one, with a dash of the Met Gala and some elements of the Burning Man being added. I know this may sound like a little too much to imagine, but trust me, it is an amazing experience. The epicness and wonderfulness of events just keep unfolding until you forget about time completely! There are passive and active elements, the indoor being outdoor – and all of it happens at once!
As time passes, you let yourself go, allowing the incredible feeling to wash over you and take full control of your body and mind. Suddenly, you look up to find yourself surrounded by a lot less people. You start to feel like your legs are getting tired from all the dancing. It may seem like the night is almost done, but the Virgin Voyages Scarlet party has a few more tricks up its sleeve. More surprising moments are waiting for you – all you need to do is be patient and wait for them. This will go on and on until the sun comes up. I am not going to reveal what will happen, but I will definitely say that it is worth waiting!

The guide to getting the perfect outfit is here too – I am sharing everything you need to know in order for you to properly pack for your magnificent journey. I rely on my own experience, plus being a constant traveler helps me keep fresh with the latest trends.
The first question you will probably ask yourself is – is there a Virgin Voyages Scarlet Night dress code set in place? The answer to that is incredibly simple – No. They don’t have a dress code, so this opens up the possibility of you wearing whatever you want. It can be something fancy or casual – the choice is yours. But keep in mind that for some events, there is a dress code (and, of course, Scarlet Night is one of them).
When it comes to packing, you will definitely want to pack some of your most special outfits for these events. Virgin Voyages takes onboard entertainment very seriously, but you don’t need to worry if your outfit fits into a certain dress code. Even during special events, when you are encouraged to dress a little bit more fancy, it is not too strict. So, while you pass by other Sailors, you will notice that they are wearing everything – from luxurious tuxedos and ball gown-style dresses to t-shirts, shorts, and any kind of comfortable clothing.
With this in mind, here are a few ideas I wanted to share with you about outfits while you are there, based on my personal experience. Take these as light suggestions, something you can wear during sea days and port days too.
I include some suggestions for both men and women, and the pieces that I specifically chose are ethical and sustainable clothing because I want to make sure that I am sourcing my clothes and that they are accessible. But you can always extend your list and add whatever you like to it.
Here are two instances where you would probably need the most help in choosing the right attire.
- Port day outfit
Choosing the right port day outfit may come as a challenge for some, especially if you have never been on Virgin Voyages before. Well, the good thing is you can wear whatever you like while you spend your days in port. However, it is always a good idea to take a variety of outfits with you, including nice casual attire and athletic wear too (this is something you bring along just in case, as your plans might change at the last minute). Some of the options you can go for include city shorts, wide-leg pants, bright dresses, cute and comfortable shirts, button-up shirts, comfortable shorts, and more.
- Scarlet Night Outfit
As you’re probably aware by now, Virgin Voyages Scarlet Night is simply iconic, and you need to dress the part! The name speaks for itself – you are encouraged to wear red, though it is not required. While I was on board, I was surprised to see that not many people were wearing red to begin with. I wasn’t sure why that was – were they not aware of the event’s name, or didn’t plan ahead of time, or maybe they just didn’t want to wear red in the first place? Either way, it was okay. On the other hand, some Sailors were dressed in everything red and crimson, from ball gowns to regular t-shirts. There was such diversity in the attire that it made you feel welcomed in itself – like you would be accepted no matter what you appear in. Things would not fall out of place if you weren’t wearing something red, so it was all very accepted.
The bottom line was that I would have loved it if everyone around me had been dressed up because this is such a fun reason to do it! Of course, if there was one night you could wear your most flattering and fabulous outfit, this is the night! However, the mindset of the people while I was there was that they didn’t have to wear something fancy, nor something red, because, at the end of the day, it will not stop you from having fun.
Some of the outfits I recommend here include a simple red tank top, a crimson dress, a colorful jumpsuit, or a dark red extravagant gown. I suggest rocking a red graphic T-shirt, a short-sleeved henley, a simple crimson shirt, or a maroon button-up.
Before we wrap things up here, remember that there might not be a dress code, but the Virgin Voyages cruises are not clothing optional. If you want to sunbathe topless, there is one small sundeck where you could do that, but that’s it.
